Our first casualty.

I'm so sad.
I have to say it is really sad when you break an egg that your own chicken laid. In the past, if I've broken a store-bought egg, I was irritated, but more because it was a big, gooey mess to clean up. But today...when I broke this egg...Libby's egg...I was actually sad. Sad because I know how hard our sweet little chicken worked to provide it for me. Such a sap, aren't I?

Oh No! ... no not a sap when it is still so early in the egg production days for you. I understand and think I would be the same.

Libby!! Adorable name! Breaks your heart doesn't it? I hate to even waste a yolk if I am using just the whites now..

oh, that is sad. I gave four eggs away today. It was actually kinda hard. Tori had spent the night at a friends. I had some easter egg grass so I put the eggs (4) in a little brown bag with the grass at the bottom. I thought it was quite cute!

Maybe you should think of it this way....you know when you have a new vehicle and you're so careful to not spill anything in it or scratch it? Well, once that first oops is out of the way it seems easier to move on...maybe not?

Love your girl's name...Libby.

I can relate!! It is still sad after three years of raising chickens when an egg breaks. It may seem silly to some, but I think of them as little treasures from our "girls". My husband laughs because I'm a bit like that when I knock a tomato off the vine accidently. He reminds me I have plenty, but it just seems like such a waste. (If it is large enough and still green, I keep it anyway).
