photo assignment: composition and perspective

Recently, some blogging friends, Camilla and Carolyn, started a fun blog, C&C Photography where they will post weekly photography challenges. This week's challenge was: composition and perspective. And I have to say...this was a fun one! I really enjoyed this challenge...and I really liked my subject...the old biscuit cutters I got at the yard sale last weekend for 50 cents!
So...here you go. Biscuit cutters...as I see them.
#1: As the eye sees it...

#2: bird's eye view...

#3: up close...

#4: off center...
#5: out of focus...

...and one extra...because I liked it...
And I just have to tell you this story...
Yesterday afternoon I looked out the window and realized the lighting would be great for this project. So I went into the kitchen to have myself a little photo challenge! As I was setting things up for the challenge...laying out the unbleached, muslin towel...laying out the old, rusty biscuit cutters...my husband watched with a puzzled look on his face. But after I took my first shot and looked at the screen on the back of my camera with him peering over my shoulder he said, "You definitely have an eye for this because I wasn't seeing it. Then I saw that picture and thought 'hey, those things are cool!'."
I'm thinking that was the best compliment ever.

Lovely photos. I never seen such an item, but it looks so nice. My favorite photo is the bird view. Happy Easter.

Simplicity...first thing that comes to mind, beautiful how you make the negative space really work for you. Great contrast between the "silvery shiney" and the matt white tablecloth...the textures add another element.
Nice work Michelle.
I am glad you joined in..I also want to wish you and your family a Happy Easter.

I'm so glad you used the biscuit cutters!!! They are wonderful photographic subjects. I agree with Camilla...nice contrasts here. The light is heavenly and the compositions just really flow to naturally. Thanks for the loveliness :)
And....happy, happy Easter!

i like the off center one best. i tend to take my pictures that way. maybe because i am a little off-centered myself.

happy easter

Those are interesting, who would think they would make such a fine subject...but they do, very photogenic! Simple, as Camilla said, but very attractive. Good buy, too. Happy Easter.

Love your props there. What fun shapes and designs they make together. My favorite shot is the negative space one, and the out of focus one almost makes me dizzy trying to "see" it.

Michelle, Very nice, all of them. The blurred image is neat. You might enjoy angling the actual camera for some shots in the future.

I love it that you found a subject that on first glance puzzles :) And I totally get what your husband said - it takes a talented eye to find beauty in simple utensils... Beautiful photos: love the bird's eye, the close-up and the off-center best. I LOVE what you did here!!

What a great compliment from your husband. I love your choice of subject too - taking something useful and not usually considered 'art' and turning it into something beautiful. I think my favourite is the bird's eye view.

Oh my these are so wonderful. I LOVE the simplicity of these. You absolutely need to sell these. Can't you just see them in someone's kitchen or as a card for someone who loves to cook? You were so right...the lighting was perfect!
