The birthday.

This is what I woke up to on Saturday morning...

Is this not the sweetest thing? There was white cake and carrot cake and candles. There were cards and a Starbuck's gift card and a fancy Garden Kneeler wrapped in the comics.

Does my family KNOW me or what? Each gift was selected just for me, truly keeping ME in mind...even down to the recycled gift wrap!
Right after gifts and a beautiful rendition of the Happy Birthday song the guys headed out back to do this:
...finish the chicken coop! They built the actual hen house area. They added an egg door...a vent...a larger door for easy cleaning...it's so great.
Then they painted it! And...using paint we already had. Inexpensive. And frugal. I love it.
And by the time they were done....hours and hours later...

This is what we ended up with!! An amazing chicken coop made up mostly of recycled items. Chris did buy one piece of plywood and we bought the chicken wire because, um, this isn't something you typically see lying around.

I absolutely love it. LOVE it.
And so do the girls...

What a fun day...I wish it could last all year.

And in case you're wondering...I'm 29. For the 13th time!

Thank you for the compliments on the coop...I am VERY happy with it. My husband and I were looking at the sketch we'd made months ago...and the coop looks JUST LIKE IT. He's good.

Here I've been on pins and needles waiting for coop photos on LJ, and they've been up on your blog!

That is a FABULOUS coop! Might you consider publishing the plans?

Better late than never for a comment, right? This coop is FABULOUS!! They did a terrific job and covered all the important aspects: easy to clean and easy to walk in! This is just what every suburban farm girl wants! Maybe a pretty vine on the left side where the chickens can't eat the plant would survive and add that touch of floral beauty?

Thanks for sharing, Michelle. Oh, and happy belated 29th birthday!
