Oh dear...

Well, it's official. You can't train a chicken.
These girls do what they want, when they want. And they make NO apologies. Not one. As a matter of fact...not only do they do what they want, when they want, but if you disturb them while they're doing it, they give you dirty looks you wouldn't believe. Looks that make you wonder why there's never been a horror film involving chickens.
The girls have decided that they're NEW favorite bathing spot is in the barrel that contains my Meyer lemon and, well, at one time anyway, a handful of strawberry plants that we got exactly two strawberries from. They were both really good, too. Too bad there weren't more...ahem.

Did you take note in the photo the chicken wire? Um. Yeah. Good thing we put that there. They went under it, over it, on top of it...yeah. Chickens. Good thing they're so cute because if not....well, we won't go there.

7 He will have no fear of bad news;

his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

oh I can so relate! i have threatened my ladies several times that they will be dinner if they do not stay out of the garden.

I'm thinking about doing a post titled - The Truth about Chickens.

Let's just say that they have destroyed/ate many things in our back yard.

their precious eggs are their saving grace : )

Hmmm, could this be termed a "bird bath"?

My brother lost his whole garden to the chickens. I don't know why he thought they'd stay away from his veggies - he'd never free-ranged chickens before. Better luck to him next season. :>)

I am still laughing at this photo.
CLASSIC!!!!

They sure can manage to worm their way into things. Lois found the jar of bread bits (bribes) on the table in the shelter house. Even though I moved them, she still thinks she can hop on the table and poke around for them.

Bread = "Stupid Chicken Tricks".. really.. try it...

LOL ... Your chickens are starting to remind me of teenagers. Tell them they can't do it by putting up chicken wire and it becomes the must do/have thing!

Apparently your girls think they're in charge! Hmm...sounds like the teenage variety of girls at my house.

On the PTF website in may you asked what to do about flies from chickens and about pectin:
I have found that a jar with holes in the top and half full of water and a bit of very stinky fly bait works like a charm. You hange the jar near the coop and in a couple days the flies disappear. Don't forget to empty the jar.
For pectin, your can mix high pectin and low pectin fruits and not use the store product at all or make pectin from green apple drops.
