A quick note to say...

homemade elder berry cough syrup...oh yes I did.

  • I have the flu...complete with aches, fever, cough.
  • Luckily I made homemade cough syrup last week (for Ian) out of dried elder berries. More on that later in the week...when I'm feeling better.
  • My family is scattered today and it makes me uneasy...Chris is at work, Ian is in Sacramento at a wrestling tournament and Seth is headed to the beach with a group of friends. (Yes, it's dang cold here...it's a winter beach trip..) And I am stuck at home...sick.
  • Is it just me? Or are foggy days eerily more quiet than other days? Weird...
  • The chickens haven't laid an egg in over a month. I realize it's been cold...but we've had a few nice, sunny, even warm days here lately...and I've been letting them free-range to their hearts content...which includes lovely dust baths in my flower pots and spreading their wings all wonky while sunning themselves on the deck. All that and I can't get a dang egg? They're taking this winter break thing seriously...
  • The house is a mess. And we're out of food. Yep. Mom's sick, alright.
  • Chris took care of dinner for me last night...in the form of pizza delivery! I think we'll be having some mac and cheese from a box tonight...I am so not feeling like cooking.
  • Chris ran to the store last night to get me some Squirt...I needed it. As a bonus he brought me a box of Almond Roca...what a sweetie!
  • OK...time to go lay down...again. What are you doing on this wintry Saturday? Hopefully something more fun than me!

Sorry to hear you are ill! And, yes, foggy weather causes sounds to deaden. I'm thinking your hens will begin laying again as soon as warmer weather and sunshine come round.

What am I doing? I'm continuing my new blog, posting diary entries of a relative written in 1898 at the age of 16. I hope you will take a glance! I'm having so much fun with this!

I hope you feel better soon! I'm having a read blogs time this morning. Hope to get motivated to do some therapy this afternoon. I don't do well with cold and we are about to have wintry mix in a few days. Have a great nap!

Hope you are feeling better soon, The older son was sick first then me, so our hearts understand. I am praying that you have a speedy recovery.

Often when the boys are busy elsewhere from home and on top of that not somewhere together, I have an empty feeling. I pray, sing, and keep myself busy until they are ready to come home.

Stay warm, and I have no idea what Squirt or Almond Roca are. Am I missing something?

I'm so sorry that you're feeling so bad! I guess this would NOT be the time to mention how sunny it's been here all week, But we're expecting rain tomorrow and it was noticeably colder here today. I hope you recover quickly and your cough syrup works wonders. Can't wait to hear about that...

Praying for you!

I think I live kinda in your neck of the woods~~We live in Vallejo and some of our grown up kids live in Sacramento. It is overcast and rather yucky today...
So get healthy!

I'm going to venture a guess that your hens are hiding the eggs. Ours do that. My 5 year old is usually the one to find the nest, I think because he's closer to the ground.
Would you be upset if I told you I was outside in shorts and a t-shirt today? Gorgeous weather! Take a look at my blog for more goat baby pictures, maybe that will help you feel better.
Did the elderberry syrup work? I have the berries, haven't made the syrup, but have been taken purchased lozenges when I feel a bit down.

Feel better Michelle! Wish I could run you over some chicken soup! Our ladies are slow this winter too, but still laying. Keeping them warm in the below zero weather with some cracked corn and alfalfa (?) from a farmer friend. They HATE the snow though... Love your elderberry syrup. Does it work well?? ~hugs to you!!

Seriously... what is up with the chickens this time of year... I'm eggless in Seattle too! Guess what though??? The Girl and I ordered 7 baby chicks... so hopefully at some point there will be eggs again :)

Feel better Figgy... Just stay in bed and read blogs all day... it's a great excuse :)

Well, yesterday we moved and today is a blizzard. I'm very grateful it didn't come yesterday! :) And I completely agree that foggy days are eerily quiet... but I also think that clear days can be peacefully quiet. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Nasty when Mom's sick! How sweet that your man took care of dinner for you...even if it was pizza! :) Rest and get well soon.

thats so great! I forget that we use to make homemade cough syrup. I guess "they" were right when I heard someone once say "ism" stands for incredibly short memory. I suffer severely from that! Glad you reminded me!
